WIAW #4: The One Featuring Bananas

Thanks to Jenn at Peas and Crayons (is it weird I imagine she’s probably one of the nicest people ever?) for hosting and for insuring I never, ever get anything done on Wednesdays because I’m too busy:

A) reading WIAW blogs

B) being hungry

C) salivating on my keyboard thus making it ineligible for productive work use and only productive work use

Here is the line-up from yesterday!

Chobani no-fat vanilla, Fiber One chocolate squares (will never stop thanking the adorable Jessie for the idea of adding them from a few WIAW’s ago), strawberries

there is yogurt under there, promise.

Watermelon slices. I’d forgotten how good watermelon is but I’ll tell ya again- TRADER JOES IS IMPROVING MY LIFE. I told my mom I was eating watermelon and she nearly passed out, sputtering “You? cut a watermelon?!!!” So in the interest of full disclosure I bought vatermelon vedges and did not hack up a watermelon. Pre-sliced fruit is so, so, so wonderful. My mom claims it doesn’t taste as good when it is pre-sliced but I am so lazy and uncoordinated I don’t think I will ever care.

I also learned that it’s fine to eat the white watermelon seeds but Rugrats has scarred me forever and so I will continue to needlessly pick them out.

Salad. My love for salad has been reignited thanks to finding Trader Joes lettuce & balsamic dressing. But they were still leaving me a little hungry. So I bought all the things and dumped ’em in: lettuce, feta, walnuts, almonds, broccoli, green bell peppers, onions, carrots, celery, beans. Oh my. If I didn’t have one hand so devout on digging in so I could shove fistfuls in my mouth I would have been clapping. Can I call this a power salad – y/n? I love it.

I have a post about this coming tomorrow but finding healthy things that I REALLY LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is so delightful.

Snack 2:

Banana and PB. I bought bananas after sending this frantic, pathetic, should-probably-be-embarrassed SOS e-mail to my co-worker from the aisle at Trader Joes.

………yep. I can never remember what color means what stage and when I like ’em best. It’s not even like it should be that hard. THERE ARE THREE COLORS INVOLVED!! For the record, Caitlyn, in case we forget again we’re documenting it here: Yellow-brown.

It was my first time in a long time having bananas (yeah we’ll go with that excuse) and this was my first time trying this PB. The consistency was strange at first bite but I think I can dig it.

A microwave-able meal.

healthy choice

Whole wheat tortilla w/ microwaved string cheese. Nabbed idea from Julie. Corn and salsa on the side. YUM!

You didn’t ask but I’ll always tell. Here’s what I drank:

7.5 glasses of water!!! I got a water tumbler thing for Christmas that I use at work and just bought another for $1 at Walmart to use at home. I guzzle down water in those things. Cups just aren’t as motivating, I guess. Last year (aka: college) all I drank was diet sodas and Crystal Light. Oh, and lots of alcohol. I only drank water sans Crystal Light when I was hungover. Yikes. This year I cut soda but still would drink only Crystal Light. So I worked on cutting the Crystal Light. It’s a little sad because I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE the peach mango and I imagine there are flowing rivers made of the stuff in heaven, but it’s a switch that I deemed important to make because I do actually love water on its own and so there really is no reason to only drink it with Crystal Light. I can definitely do without it (although I’ll still have it from time to time) and all of its artificial sweeteners in my system every day. Woohoo..go me. I realize now, after reading so many helpful blog post comments, that it’s important to let myself feel all kinds of proud and happy whenever I make a healthy change; even though it sounds miniscule…it’s not.

beyonce go girl shaking it

Go visit Peas and Crayons for better WIAW’ers who probably have superior banana knowledge.

  1. Hahahha that GIF had me cracking up. I drink a ton of water because I like it, but it’s hard to get used to liking the taste I think. That email you sent is hilarious. This is why I read your blog. Yep. I’m sitting on the couch cracking up to myself.

  2. Hah!!! I’m so glad I found your blog. Love it. I used to get that Better’n Peanut Butter stuff all the time, but then I started getting hooked on fancy nut butters like Justin’s, Barney Butter, etc. and now I can’t go back!

  3. Better n’ Peanut Butter used to be the only kind of nut butter I would eat. So good! You’ll have to try Once Again Organic Creamy Peanut Butter. It’s expensive, but so good!!!

–Thanks for the shoutout. Your adorable ❤

  4. Bahaha, that email is too much. I hope that banana was the most delicious thing ever. They’re a staple on my grocery list every week because I eat bananas in as many things as possible (but I usually try to keep it to 1 a day, which makes deciding which of my favorite banana dishes to have a little difficult). I REALLY want watermelon now though!

  5. Your list at the top outlines my entire Wednesday, too! That made me laugh. Good for you on cutting out pop and drinking more water! I’ve been making my way toward doing that, too, but sometimes I get in a rut where I just want something “interesting” to drink, so I’ll treat myself. I guess once in a while is better than daily, right? 😉

    • glad it made you laugh! i hear ya- sometimes i’m just in the mood for something different to drink and plain old water doesn’t cut it. i still have some of the peach mango packets that i’ll turn to 🙂

  6. Yellow brown bananas are the most delicious, but you’re going to want to buy them when they’re yellow green, so you have a few days to eat them before they go bad!

  7. Muahahaha this is an amazing WIAW. Your sarcasm is wonderful and I totally appreciate it. Fiber One squares? Any good? I’m always putting shizzz on my Greek yogurt but haven’t thought about that. Trader Joe’s is always to the rescue, don’t ever forget it! What kind of peanut butter is that? Why did you get that kind instead of regular? 🙂 Julie from PBF has the best food ideas ever and I bet that quesadilla was delish.

    • love my fellow sarcastic blogger friends! yes– fiber one squares so good! i really love putting the chocolate ones in my greek yogurt. its why i love wiaw because i find the ideas like that! i tried this PB because it got a great rating on my fooducate app (aka my bible of telling me what is healthy / isn’t). and YES the quesadilla was so good. whats sad is i don’t think i would have thought of it but its so simple haha.

  8. Hi, I think I love you. Yes I did find you from WIAW. But can we be bff’s? Too much? Too Soon? You just don’t know it yet but we are destined. 1) I’m with you on the water thing. I keep tricking myself into drinking water… hence why I spent three hours on Saturday making fruity ice to naturally flavor my water… I’m sad/have no life 2) I have never gone to trader joe’s… I feel like i need to, but I’m scared. I feel like its a magical place with unicorns and rainbows and I don’t know if I’m ready to be overwhelmed by that. 3) you go gurllll small healthy steps are where its at! Now that i think I’ve sufficiently embarrassed myself, I’ll leave you be. ❤

    • 🙂 love this comment! not too much, too soon. fo sho lets be bffs. i was intimidated of trader joes because i thought it would be like hipster / overpriced. but it has such low prices I’m consistently amazed and so many good things! aka a magical place with unicorn and rainbows.

  9. What a great post! I LOLed like 4 times. Thank you for reminding me of Rugrats! Love that show. That salad looks amazing! Power salads are the best! Have you tried PB2? As a peanut butter addict, I had to try PB2 to see if the “PB straight from the jar” sessions would end. So far so good! Have a fabulous day!

  10. Hahaha! I also spend my Wednesdays drooling over WIAW pictures! Everything always looks so good.
I love that Better n PB too; its so good!

  11. Your GIF choices always make my day :p

I wish I liked bananas more 😦 I have tried and tried but I just can’t stand them. I try sneaking them into smoothies and that’s ALL I taste. Boooo!

    • i dunno why i never thought of PB w/ bananas before. so good! and yes to mango love– i discovered mango slices this year and i love them. i have a bag of frozen mango slices in freezer right now 🙂

  12. Kicking the soda and crystal light is hard to do!!! Maybe finding a peachy mango tea and making iced tea would be a good way to making saying goodbye to crystal light easier….?
