MIMM: Happy Monday!

Marvelous is….having a very low-key weekend. Just hanging around the house with my roommates, cleaning (err, okay, that’s not so marvelous, but long overdue) and lounging in bed reading.

Marvelous is….an awesome dinner on Saturday. My dad’s extended side of the family had an outing at a famous crab house. We came from all different directions! I drove down with my 34 year old cousin who lives ten minutes away from me. I so wish I’d taken pictures of the food– it was unreal. For appetizers, we had coconut shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops, seafood nachos, and oysters that I even tried (verdict: mehhh). I ate blackened salmon, sweet potato fries, and broccoli for my entree. Salmon might be my favorite food ever. So good.

Marvelous is….having SO much fun with family. This is a side of the family that hasn’t been close in years, but slowly and surely, we’re getting there. When we do get together, like on Saturday, it’s non-stop laughs and you can almost see everybody thinking “We need to do this more often. Why have we waited so long?”

Marvelous is…seeing my parents! They showed up with a cooler packed with meals for me. I wasn’t expecting it and my mom replied, “You eating Lean Cuisines/Smart Ones/Healthy Choices everyday (for dinner) worries me! They’re not healthy!” In reply I think I just stared at her blankly. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY’RE NOT HEALTHY?! I can’t cook and I’m lazy, so they’re God’s gift to me. So of course, I got home and Googled. Oh….sodium. I’m so uneducated about things.

Marvelous is….this cooler. My parents had nothing to do all weekend and so cooked me chicken marsala, ravioli, meatballs, soup, meat for tacos, my fave banana bread (HELLO I AM TRYING TO DIET HERE. but if you really wanna pull my arm….i’ll eat it..i guess…) My mom then reminded me that I really need to start learning how to cook. Yeah. I should get on that.

Marvelous is…this song. I was playing my I-pod on shuffle as I drove to the gym this morning and it came on. I fell in love with it all over again. And Jason Mraz. I listened to it maybe 20 times. It put me in the best mood! Why have I not seen him live yet?

dd

Marvelous is...this iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts. There’s an oh-so-convenient DD on my route from the gym to work. They really weren’t messing around with the ice. I took my first sip while sitting at a red light and had to turn on the heat in my car, it froze me up.

Marvelous is……..this guy. What an awesome lesson: Nothing in life has to be mundane. Love, love, love it.

orioles

Added marvelous-ness: Work is giving away a set of 2 tickets to 25 Orioles games. Today was the first raffle and….I WON 🙂 I’m not sure what I’m going to do as *small voice* I don’t know who to take. My roommate, who I would probably ask, has already gone to the 3 home games they’ve had so far. And I still don’t know many people in this city. Sigh.

  1. Yep. Definitely marvelous. All of it. Especially time with family. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a solid weekend (or week, or month) with my parents. My parents always cook me my food to last about a week when they visit, so I totally get where you’re coming from. They keep trying to make me cook for myself but when their food tastes so good, there’s really no need 😉

  2. Right there with ya on the Jason Mraz song – he’s the greatest! Go girl – I wish I had Dunkin Donuts on my route, that coffee is to die for! Yummy! Marvelous Monday, indeed!

  3. I want to like iced coffee so badly – I love the idea of it, but I can never handle coffee that isn’t super hot. So nice of your parents to make you all that food! In my family it would be the other way around haha.

  4. What an awesomely marvelous Monday!! I love it! And if you are trying to eat healthy, you may want to see if you have something similar to a My Fit Foods where you live. It’s what I’ve been eating for the last few months, they’re a bit pricey but totally healthy, no preservatives, etc… and no need to worry about sodium!

so nice of your parents to cook for you though!

  5. Yay for time with family! I seriously think it’s one of the best things ever. 🙂 And girl, I hear you on the Lean Cuisine thing. I spent most of my grad school years living off of them, and it was only my Celiac disease diagnosis that got me to quit. It’s awesome that your parents stocked you up with so much food — I come from a family of truly awful cooks (God bless ’em, they’re awesome people — but not so skilled in the kitchen), so I had to learn on my own. I promise it can be done! 🙂

  6. Isn’t family time the best?! Glad you were able to spend time with not only your parents, but your extended family as well. ❤
